Album Review: Tahir: "Hood Economics"

Hood Economics
by Tahir is a "motion sound picture" CD in the style of DVD.  It is 100% Dirty South, meaning -- prepare to rock your head -- to that *ibbida-ibbida* .  Taheezy brings the drum machines under mel-low vox and detuned Kords.

Breezy cuts in the hooks. Cowbells. Tympanies. Lyrix reverb from da age of Lyte on "D-Boy"  -- Good script to tip yo' whip.

"Whatchu Want" got them open drums with crazy sci-fi synth.  Nigga does not stutter once.

This album is some musical ass shit!  Uptempo.  Tests the MC and DJ skills.  Anti-radio.  Real feelings.

"On The Road," an ode to independent pros over turn-of-the-80's Jazz is that education.  Remember how you used to use them shout outs to track the scene?

"Africa" feat. Caron Wheeler has an interp of Steppin' Out.  Ethereal wash of keys over this track makes it double 1980, but with a twist:  Garveyite topix.

If you liked Let's Get Free, then this production on Hedrush Records will put you in that nod.  Word to god. "That's That Bullshit" is a funny ass track. Track 15: "I Make Beats" tells those pee-smellin' kids at the ASR-X display what a beat sounds like, and how to fucking do it.  Thanks. Finally. Someone said it. Thanks.  That's the anthem.
