In a rare triumph of common sense, the Massachusetts House of
Representatives defeated 96 to 57 an allegedly "veto proof" bill to
grant in-state tuition rates to illegal aliens. The bill was
supported by Attorney General Tom Riley in one of his regular bids to
fluff himself up into something vaguely electable. It was one of
the most amusing times he has been shut down since trying to intimidate
cryptome.org into giving him its user lists.
The
In-State Tuition Bill (H.1230) would have charged students who have
attended high
school in Massachusetts illegally for at least 3 years the
same tuition rate that any legal resident of Massachusetts would pay –
regardless of whether they are a U.S. citizen or not. This would
have given preferential treatment to illegal aliens over out-of-state
students and made a mockery of the in-state tuition received by U.S.
citizens. It is common knowledge that one becomes a legal
U.S. citizen either by being born here or by Naturalizing which
includes establishing a viable household, stable legal income, and
taking a civics test in the english language.
Massachusetts
Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition was notably
perturbed that their pet bill was democratically defeated. MIRA
Executive Director Ali Noorani wasted no time in levelling accusations
of racism saying, “The fear and
hatred that fueled today’s vote are a product of the Romney
administration’s sheer contempt for the community." Noorani went
on to inflame the passions of other categorically reliable lepers
citing the governor's "record
of eliminating health insurance for elderly and disabled immigrants,
and now leading the fight against the In State Tuition Bill."
Supposedly the elderly and the disabled writhed in agony, grief and
solidarity at being reminded of this.
How
Obnoxious Was MIRA?
MIRA cleverly cast this attempted *rate cut* in it's own terminology,
calling it a "power to pay the same rate," and not a "pork barrel
project," or a "power to escape the burdens of citizenship," which it
clearly was. They called *illegal aliens* "undocumented
immigrants" as if paperwork and not work itself were what distinguish
good citizens from noncitizens. They paraded around a Rindge and
Latin student who has been "trying to get her green card" for the past
16 years. They made the accusation that "Fear and Hatred"
defeated the bill, but MIRA was circulating this phrase well
before the day of the vote: "Let the dreams of education defeat the
politics of fear and hate." Clearly MIRA had made up its mind in
advance that fear and hate would figure greatly in the vote, and would
make a great campaign slogan.
Aside from deck stacking, bloody shirt waving, and well poisoning
lingo, MIRA also raised various spooks and specters including a group
called SIM (The Student Immigration Movement), one of those fighting
groups that a "growing number of youth" allegedly support. Ali
Noorani sent out a press release in an attempt to draw massive amounts
of college students
and intellectuals to the State House to wage a
protest-even-as-they-get-their-way. I went on both advertised
days --on both 40 and 50 degree
days-- and NOBODY CAME! Nobody but the bored looking news vans
and the paranoid dago in the blue
SUV circling the State House watching for trouble.
One can conclude the following:
--Naturalized immigrants to the United States do not share the belief
of illegal alien interest groups that America is a free-for all.
Not in the sense implied by socialists of latino and eastern
european descent.
--The bill was not defeated by a barrage of phone calls by racists to
the State House. Again, nobody showed up to make a fuss outside
the State House a la the gay marriage lobby.
--Illegal aliens with a degree would go on to seek employment in the
U.S. illegally, making them in effect high tech wetbacks.
--Illegal alien lobby groups are quick to lure local colleges with
promises of 2.5 million dollar tuition earnings.
--Slogans like "Same State, Same Rate" do not always work to hypnotize
people into a foot-stamping hoedown even though they rhyme.
--MIRA is not, as Ali Noorani monolithically claims, "public opinion."
--Berkeley
students do go on to annoy people on both coasts.
--Ali Noorani intends to keep bringing this issue every year until
resolve withers, U.S.
sovereignty is worn down, and Latino and Iranian illegals are jumping
off of buildings, falling out of doors, and not speaking English
everywhere: "This is
not an issue that is going to go away and we are not a community that
is going away" Thus, freebies for foreigners becomes the new
pro-life anti-porn, one of the defeated-yet-repeated idiotbills which
assault the Legislature and waste time better used improving highways.
