Alumnus Calls for Alumni Divestment from Athletics Departmentby
Sent to the UNH Athletics
Dept. Board of Directors on 2/20/06:
"Spineless" Marty Scarano has sissified the sport of hockey by
cowtowing to interest groups and banning the song "Black Betty" from
UNH hockey events. His facile reasoning is that he is promoting
diversity and sensitivity by insulting the vast majority of UNH hockey
supporters on behalf of a small but vocal minority of morons whose
leftist agenda dovetails with the agenda of board members in the
financially troubled athletics department.
This ignoramus has not only spoken beyond his area of expertise
(sports), but has insulted the band Ram Jam (who has been notified),
and shown disrespect to the original composer of "Black Betty," the
famous blues musician, Leadbelly. He has shown disrespect to
thousands of UNH alumni who must now face with disgust that socialist
fanatics are erasing some of the finest and most fondly remembered
traditions enjoyed by former UNH students, and that the University
expects in some strange way to capitalize on this decision.
It is for these reasons therefore, that I do call for financial
divestiture from the UNH Athletics Program. News of Mr. Scarano's
buffoonish behavior is now circulating widely amongst UNH alumni.
I am, in fact, one of five students from my graduate year to have
received email today and to have seen news articles about this obscene
stupidity. I encourage my fellow alumni to refrain from
purchasing tickets to UNH hockey games. I encourage my fellow
alumni to refrain from investing in UNH Athletics, and I encourage UNH
students to refuse payment on that portion of their tuition which
subsidizes the current tomfoolery in the Athletics Department
management.
Furthermore, I do intend to publish negative views on this travesty in
American culture in my magazine and disseminate it as widely as
possible. I also endorse the Free
Black Betty website and their nationwide campaign. I will
also send word to other UNH Alumni and to various media outlets that
UNH's official policy on diversity is to eliminate it wherever the
diverse population happens to be the vast majority, those persona non
grata who pay through the nose to be told as much. In this way
they can be notified and stop paying to be insulted.
Sincerely,
Robert Goodwin
